Mission Statement Virginia Beach City Public Schools Gifted Program

The mission of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools Gifted Programs is to challenge students with differentiated interdisciplinary opportunities to provide a flexible, innovative curriculum which promotes self-efficacy, productivity, creativity, and leadership, and to develop individual talents, special abilities, and a commitment to excellence.

The Plaza Middle School Gifted Program serves students through a cluster model. In this model, our intellectually gifted students are clustered together in specific classes. Our gifted program provides differentiated instruction through collaboration of core teachers and the gifted resource teacher, Mrs. Moore. Gifted students interact with their teachers and classmates in a heterogeneous setting, while benefiting from the curricular modification of content, process, product, and learning environment. Mrs. Moore also offers staff development opportunities to assist teachers in the use of instructional strategies and thus, enabling them to better provide for the needs of gifted students.  Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades can attend ODC for dance. Students who are identified gifted in visual arts can attend Virginia Beach Middle School full time.
